Author: Debra Webb
Series: Faces of Evil #4
Synopsis (from bn.com):
When Jess Harris moved back to her Alabama hometown, she thought she’d left her past behind her. But the blood bath the new Major Crimes deputy chief finds at a murder scene is beyond even the savagery of Eric Spears, the serial killer who now haunts Jess’s life with terrifying text messages. Amid eerie echoes of the Charles Manson massacre, Jess investigates the dismemberment of a cop’s wife while her baby lay sleeping down the hall.
The discovery of two more headless victims makes Jess wonder if it’s a gang-related slaying, a personal vendetta . . . or something else. And the sudden reappearance of her ex-husband makes her question her future with Chief of Police Dan Burnett. Now as the net widens to include a shocking suspect, Jess realizes that the identity of the killer may lie with an autistic eight-year-old boy. With inner-city tensions at an all-time high and the community calling for blood, Jess must race to save an innocent child-and prevent a final, horrifying act of rage.
My thoughts: Well, I am back from my 2 weeks in my island paradise of Oahu and it is now time to catch up on the reviews for all of the books I finished while there! Sit back and enjoy the ride.
I really, really enjoy this series. I am so happy that I found it by accident on a display at Barnes and Noble. It is technically a series that is characterized as Romantic Suspense and hence shelved under romance, but don’t let this fool you, it is really a wonderful mystery, thriller series with a bit of a romantic focus.
The main characters in this series – namely Jess Harris – new deputy chief of Major Crimes unit and Dan Burnett – Chief of Police and Jess’s lover – are engaging and wonderful!
This book tends to get away a bit from the serial killer Eric Spears that is after Jess and focuses on a number of different cases, but it really just serves to wet the reader’s appetite as we all know Spears will be back with a vengeance. I can’t wait!
If you are a lover of good mystery series with a serial killer slant, please give this series a chance! You will not be disappointed.
A fast, engaging read that makes you wanting more. Book 5 (of 6) in the series came out July 30 and I will be getting it soon!
